Dr. Kistner was a tremendously kind and generous human. Taking entomology with him my senior year (1996) profoundly affected the way that I looked at and appreciated the living things in the natural world around me. It would not be an overstatement to say that it changed my life and path forward. He continued to be so supportive and encouraging to me after graduation as well. I was very sorry to hear of his passing and my best wishes go out to his family.

Dr. Kistner was always extremely kind to me when I worked with him in Chico at the university and in field research. I still sometimes tell the stories he told me about his research in Africa to my own children. His memory will always stay alive in my heart. I am so sorry for this loss. Rest In Peace, my friend.

Dr. Kistner was my entomology and social insect professor, and he was on my grad committee. He was a supporter of the biology honors society (that I now advise), and we held many parties at his home. Dave was always so supportive and kind to me. My thoughts to the family.
