Marie Dora Smith was born May 27, 1915 in Frenchville, Maine. She passed away quietly on May 14, 2021 in Chico, CA.
Born to Henri & Leda Nadeau, she was the oldest of five children and she out lived them all. She grew up on the family farm in Madawaska, Maine until she left home in 1933 for a short time to Boston, then moved to Providence, Rhode Island. In the summer of 1932 while walking along State Route 1 with three girl friends near home, a large black convertible pulled alongside. The gentleman in the car asked them if everything was alright....that was FDR while campaigning for his 1st presidential election! During World War II, she worked in a factory soldering components for walkie-talkie. July 4, 1943 in Providence, she met the love of her life, Marvin Smith, a Seabee of the "Fighting 99th". After the war was over, they married in Providence on December 20, 1945 and drove across the country to San Francisco, CA. They lived in various cities in Northern California as Marvin worked for the government building water projects throughout California, finally settling in Roseville, CA in 1968. Marie took the traditional route and became a homemaker of impeccable taste and quality, sewing her own silk clothes. She loved to entertain, cooking seven course meals that would last for hours; taking soups, crab soufflé, salads, main courses (Beef Wellington), desserts from Bon Appetite and making them better! Folks knew that they were in for a special treat when they came to Marie's house for dinner.
Marie loved watching sports, especially baseball, football and golf.
She and Marvin were married for over 65 years until his passing in April 2011.
Marie is survived by hundreds of nieces, nephews and cousins on the East Coast and by her son, Steven and daughter in law Vicki whom reside in Chico, CA. She will be dearly missed by everyone who ever knew her.
Upon her request, there will be no services.
