Obituary of Betty Louise Grommesh

Betty Louise Grommesh Betty Louise Grommesh, 78, of Gridley, CA, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2009 in Sacramento, CA. Betty was born on February 27, 1931 in Amber, Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Herbert H. Grommesh; son, Randy Grommesh; daughter, Brenda (Dan) Stentzel; grandchildren, John Grommesh, Melanie Mainerd, Paul (Misty) Grommesh, Adam Stentzel, Glenn Stentzel, Samuel Stentzel and Brooke Stentzel; sisters, Lou Murphy, Thelma Wade, Elsie Muchmore and Maxine Bernardt; brothers, John Parker, J.H. Parker and H.D. Parker. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Michael D. Grommesh. Born the sixth of ten children, Betty learned early how to blend the blessings of service, gratitude and giving, with the proper amount of stubbornness. Known for her pies, Betty’s family relished in her banana cream, coconut cream and sour cream/raisin delights. An avid genealogist, she researched and published the book: Grommesh and Parker Ancestors and Descendants 1500’s to 1993. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed reading novels and making a “joyful noise unto the Lord” in the Ward choir. As a young woman, Betty often dreamed of becoming a writer, and for over forty years, her efforts provided the weekly Church bulletin. A “Woman of Faith”, Betty served with her husband as a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Denver-Colorado Mission from 1988-1989. To her family, Betty will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose compassionate heart and humble beginnings led her to bake extra “goodies” for neighbors and friends, and save to provide coats for children in need. A 9:00 a.m. viewing will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 400 Spruce Street, Gridley, CA, followed by a 10:00 a.m. service. Interment will be at Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.
