Obituary of Robert Kenneth Fichter

Graveside Services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Corning, CA for Robert Fichter, 78, of Gridley, CA. Bob passed away December 21, 2009, at Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital of natural causes. Born December 8, 1931, in Madison, Nebraska, he graduated from high school in Corning, CA and served in the US Navy (Korean Conflict) 1950-1954. He worked in retail for 30 years as Fichter and Sons Western Auto and Ace Hardware in Corning before becoming a general contractor, as Bob Fichter Builders for 23 years in the Gridley area. Bob was a former City Council member, volunteer for the fire department and member of the Elks Lodge, all in Corning. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gridley, a Gridley Planning Commissioner, and a Master in the Masonic Lodge, Gridley Rotary Club and Moose Lodge No. 1594. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jerry Ann; his sons Greg Fichter (Sandy) of Orland; Ron Morgan (Kayla) of Corning; Dalton Fichter of San Diego, Tim Morgan (Patricia) of Willows; daughters Teri Fichter (Jose Rodriguez) of Gridley; Trina Fichter of Redding; Cindy Nichols (Dave) of Sherwood, Oregon and Dorothy Harlan of Sacramento; a sister Bernadine Smiley of Chico; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Emma and Earl Fichter and brother Donald Fichter. A remembrance gathering will be held January 9, 2010, at the United Methodist Church, Corner of Haskell and Magnolia Streets at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Coker presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital Foundation, 280 Spruce Street, Gridley, CA 95948. Arrangements are under the direction of Affordable Mortuary.
