Obituary of Theodore Warren Johnston

Theodore W. Johnston Ted was born March 3, 1933, in Red Bluff, California, living for 75 years. He passed over March 17 after a courageous battle with cancer since 2006. He showed great strength to us. He lived in Corning his whole life. After graduation he went into the Korea War and was given an honorable discharge. He worked for the railroad with his father Alliston after the war. After that he worked at Crane Mills for years then transferred to Paskenta where he left the mill and became a choker setter. One day on the mountain while setting chokers, boulders broke loose and avalanched on top of him. Ted was flown via helicopter to the Enloe hospital. He was unable to work after that. Ted was an avid fisherman. He fished all through Northern California. He enjoyed spending time with his long time companion Betty. They traveled to farmer’s markets, flea markets, casinos and watching movies. His prior hobby was hunting ducks, geese and pleasant. He was a naturalist in his day harvesting mustard greens along with field mushrooms. He liked working on cars and going out to restaurants. He enjoyed curing olives, cooking apple pies and making baked beans as his specialty. In his teen years he loved to hot rod and race cars on Hall Road with his friends. He met and married Marie Roberts and later divorce. Doing his time with us he was a provider to the nations food supply as a share cropper of soy, wheat and corn. Ted is preceded in death by his mother Florence Johnston and father Allison Johnston. He has a daughter Dolores Johnston of Sacramento, California, a step daughter Marilyn Schmidt, grandson Michael Conner both of Chico, California. He loved his daughters and grandson very much. He’s at peace now and his spirit will be remembered. The gravesite service will be held on Monday at 11:00a located at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
