Porter. Other survivors are sons, Daniel (Katie) of Ashland, Oregon, David (Tiffani) of Boulder, Colorado, four grandchildren, Kyle, Ezekiel, Elijah and Zoe. He is also survived by sister, Phyllis (Steve) Hancock of Perkins, Oklahoma and brother, Dean (Stephanie) Porter of Stillwater, OK. He leaves behind cherished double cousins, Bobby (Fortuna, CA), Billy and Ben Porter (Sapulpa, OK) Darrell was born in Perkins, OK and began working at 12 years old at Redus Welding Shop. He moved to McKinleyville, CA at 16 and went to work at two lumber mills in Arcata, CA. He joined the Marines at 17 with the reluctant permission of his mother, Maxine Porter. He served in Viet Nam and reached the rank of Sergeant. After discharge from the service he worked for PG&E, obtained a commercial pilot license, opened McKinleyville Tire & Muffler, became a building contractor, built spec houses and worked doing commercial building until diagnosed with cancer in 2007. Over the last 10 years he loved training his horses “Mister” and “Willie” and looked forward to a horse packing trip each fall in Idaho to bow hunt for Elk. He did not even have to pack his gear for his last great trip into the arms of Jesus. Memorial services will be held at a later date in California and Oklahoma.
