Obituary of Patricia Louisa Popp

Pat Popp A memorial service for Patricia Louisa Popp, 87 of Chico, California, will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church on Washington Avenue in Chico, with Tom Shifflet, retired pastor, officiating. Pat passed away on December 6, 2007 at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, she was born on November 19, 1920 in Big Spring, Texas to Earl and Helen Popp. She was educated at San Mateo Junior College where she earned an AA, San Jose State College where she earned a BA and Stanford University where she earned her Masters Degree and Doctorate. Pat was a teacher and counselor for thirty years, her last tenure being at California State University, Chico. Pat lived in many different places including, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, Maryland, Arizona and California. She also traveled to Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. She was a member of AAUW, Prime Timers, HSUS, Stanford Alumni and the Sierra Club. Pat’s hobbies were reading, gardening, camping, hiking, backpacking and opera. Survivors include her long-time close friend, Meg Quiggle of Chico; a sister, Jacqueline Parton of Santa Barbara, CA; sister-in-law, Elizabeth “BJ” Popp of Chico; four nephews, Eric Popp and his family of Chico, Craig Parton and Lindsay Parton both of Santa Barbara, and Steven Popp of Monetery; and one niece, Cheryl Popp of Sausalito. Pat was preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert and David Popp. Memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s memory, to a your favorite charity, in care of Affordable Mortuary, 587 Country Drive, Chico, CA 95928, who are handling the arrangements.
