Obituary of Douglas A. Whitmarsh

Douglas A. Whitmarsh, 58, of Paradise, CA passed away at a care facility in Paradise on March 7, 2009. Doug was born on March 25, 1950 in Salem, OR to Glenn and Nita Whitmarsh. Doug settled in Orland and after graduating from Orland High School in 1969, he joined the Navy and was nicknamed "Mud Hen". Doug enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was so passionate about football that he volunteered to be the Orland Aztec's announcer for many years, even when ill. He was a member of the Paradise Duck Club and Orland Alumni Association. He is survived by his father and stepmother, Glenn and Darlene Whitmarsh of Magalia; brother, Rick Whitmarsh of Orland; stepsisters, Gail Brewer of Colorado and Rhonda Rollins of Manton, CA; stepbrother, Ralph Ellis of Indianapolis; long lost half brother, Dennis Sargent and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by younger brother, Mark Whitmarsh and mother, Nita Mossbarger. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Zeke Ficher's, 6185 County Road 15 in Orland. Donations may be made to the Orland Alumni Association, P.O. Box 775, Orland, CA 95963. Donations will go for a new Orland High School Announcing Booth.
