Obituary of Edman Eugene Bowen

Edman E. Bowen Edman Eugene Bowen, 89, of Chico, California, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at a care facility in Chico. Edman was born on October 11, 1918 in Chico to Eugene and Mina Bowen. He married Betty Jean Ritchie on January 28, 1946. Edman served during WWII in the U.S. Army, after discharge, Edman used his GI Bill to go to college. Edman was a math teacher at Chico Junior High School, retiring after thirty years. He was an avid fisherman, he also loved traveling, backpacking and hiking; his last hike was at the age of eighty. Edman enjoyed square dancing with his wife, belonging to the Chico Squares. Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Betty Bowen; son, Philip W. Bowen; daughters, Heather Bowen Thompson and April Netz and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Eugene Bowen in 2007. The family would like to express their gratitude to Enloe Hospice and their volunteers as well as to Chico Creek Care and Rehab for all the good care they gave to Edman; also to the pastor and church family at Trinity United Methodist Church for all the prayers, concern and support given. Ed hasn’t left us, he has just hiked up the trail to join his son at their favorite fishing hole. They are both loved and will be missed always.
