Obituary of John Swan Hanson

Our beloved father John Swan Hanson went to be with the Lord on October 3, 2022, at the age of 79. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Dad was a wonderful, patient and loving father to four daughters: Kelly Hanson Fuller (Chuck), Kim Hanson Shaw, deceased (John), Kris Hanson (Tim Beach), and Kasey Hanson Bruggeman (Aaron). He was an amazing grandfather to his 4 grandchildren: Cameron Shaw, Karson Shaw, Grace Bruggeman and Wyatt Bruggeman, and large extended family with his wife Jean Hanson. He was predeceased by his wife Jean, daughter Kim, parents W.E and Edna (Swan) Hanson and sister Janet (Hanson) Jones.  

John held bachelor degrees from Stout State University and Boise State University. He was a long-time federal government employee, the majority of his career was with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in leadership positions and as a salmon fisheries biologist. As former President of the Idaho Houndsmen Association, he proudly raised blue tick and walker hounds with whom he competed and hunted bear, mountain lion and coon all over the state of Idaho. For many years he hunted deer with his wonderful partner and friends in Paynes Creek, California. John was an avid hunter, lover of knowledge, musically gifted and a great friend to many. All would agree that John was witty and quick with a joke. 

Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Wounded Warriors or the National Asthma Association. Our father instilled in us a zest for life, pride in family and the importance of laughter. Rest with the angels, Dad. We shall meet again.
